Individual Marketplace Open Enrollment to Start November 15, 2014

Remember how fun it was to apply for individual health insurance with Nevada Health Link this time last year, well it’s time for round two…

However we will all be dealing with the Federal Marketplace site for health insurance exchange business this time around as Nevada’s Silver State Exchange has abandoned the Nevada Health Link. There are many improvements with this system, a much more streamlined application process, and several more health insurance companies will be in the exchange game now they have observed for a year. That is good news as it will provide much needed options for those looking for individual health insurance.

Everyone that purchased a exchange policy with Nevada Health Link for 2014 will have to re-apply. Also many companies that sold policies off the exchange this year also have a common renewal of January 1, 2015 and will use the open enrollment period of November 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015. However it is essential make a decision prior to December 15th, 2014 in order to lock in a January 1, 2015 effective date! Otherwise you coverage will start on January 15, 2015 or as late as February 1, 2015.

Another nice feature to this year’s open enrollment, insurance brokers like myself that have been certified with the CMS Marketplace to sell and assist with application will have the ability to access subsidy determinations directly from insurance company websites, have the subsidy approved and directed back to that companies plan selection to allow one to select a plan and never have to visit the Healthcare.gov site.

Most advertisements makes it sound like one has to go directly with the government site to find health insurance. I encourage you to seek help and advice from a health insurance professional. We have spent many hours learning about the complicated Obamacare Law and are also certified to sell and help you apply. Also if one is not qualified for a government subsidized premium tax credit, there is really no reason to purchase insurance through the exchange. The rates are not better in the exchange, you can purchase plans directly with the insurance company of your choice without having to do business with the federal government.

So act quickly after the November 15th start date and contact me or your qualified broker for help.
